Plant Based Butter Recall: FDA Sets Class II Risk as 7,824 Units Are Affected in 10 States

Must read

A recall of Miyoko’s plant-based butter is affecting shoppers in 10 states after yeast, mold and E. coli were cited by the Food and Drug Administration. The butter was first recalled on Sept. 11, and on Oct. 23 the FDA assigned the recall a Class II risk level—the agency’s second-highest category. That classification means the product is unlikely to cause permanent health problems, though it may lead to temporary or reversible effects.

The recall covers 1,304 cases, or 7,824 individual products, distributed by Prosperity Organic Foods Inc.

Which packages are affected?

Shoppers should look for individual 8-ounce packages with these details:

  • Product: Miyoko’s Creamery European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter

  • Net weight: 8 oz (227 g)

  • UPC: 857554005773

  • Lot number: 07871

  • Best-by date: Nov. 5, 2026

The products were shipped in 6-pack cases labeled:

  • Product: Miyoko’s Creamery Organic European Style Plant Milk Butter

  • Net weight: 3 lbs (6-pack of 8-oz units)

  • Lot number: 1007871

  • Best-by date: Nov. 5, 2026

The recalled butter was sold in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New Hampshire and Wisconsin.

What consumers should do

Check refrigerators and freezers for the recalled packages. The FDA did not issue specific instructions for consumers, but because this is a Class II recall, the safest choice is to discard the butter or return it to the place of purchase.
