Dwayne Johnson is set to return for Sony Pictures’ upcoming adventure Jumanji: Open World, which the studio has billed as the final film in director Jake Kasdan’s trilogy. The movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Dec. 25.

Johnson will reprise his role alongside returning franchise stars Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. The story centers on the game’s heroes escaping the console and causing chaos in the real world. The cast also includes Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Rhys Darby and Danny DeVito.

On Monday, Sony released the film’s poster, which displays the stars’ faces stacked vertically. In the first trailer, released online over the summer, the four main characters appear in the real world as stiff, awkward versions of their video game avatars.

“Two worlds collide,” Johnson wrote in an Instagram post about the poster. “One final game. #Jumanji: Open World — the last game is coming exclusively to movie theatres CHRISTMAS DAY.”

The new film follows 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which relaunched the franchise after Robin Williams starred in the 1995 feature adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 children’s book. Kasdan, who directed the 2017 film and its 2019 sequel, returns to direct Open World from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Matt Tolmach, Kasdan, Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia are producers.

Welcome to the Jungle followed a group of teenage friends who become trapped inside a video game as adult avatars. Released in December 2017, it earned more than $950 million worldwide. The 2019 sequel, **Jumanji: The Next Level**, grossed over $801 million globally.

Earlier this year, Johnson, Hart and Black appeared at CinemaCon, where they showed the first footage from the new movie and announced its title. Black told the audience, “I’ve never had more fun working on a movie. This is my favorite so far.”
