As the Arizona Cardinals prepared for Sunday’s matchup against the Detroit Lions, multiple reports Saturday said the team will trade wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
The timing of a deal remained uncertain.
NFL Network reported Harrison will be inactive for Sunday’s game at State Farm Stadium.
Harrison has five catches on 12 targets for 85 yards and a touchdown through four games this season. His role has shrunk since the arrival of new coach Mike LaFleur, and the Cardinals have struggled to effectively feature Harrison and fellow wide receiver Michael Wilson together. When one was involved in the offense, the other often was not.
Part of that is due to All-Pro tight end Trey McBride serving as the team’s No. 1 pass catcher.
Last week in New York, Harrison caught a touchdown pass and drew the final pass-interference penalty that gave the Cardinals a chance to score the winning points from the Giants’ 4-yard line. Arizona was unable to convert.
Trade rumors surrounding Harrison had intensified over the past week or so. Harrison said this week he was not paying attention to the chatter.
“I’m only focused on Detroit, helping the Cardinals win football games at the moment,” Harrison said Thursday. “So whatever rumors you’re talking about, I don’t pay it no mind.”
Reports indicate the Houston Texans are a possible destination. Not only do the Texans have Harrison’s college quarterback, C.J. Stroud, but they are also in need of a healthy wide receiver. Houston and Arizona have been frequent trade partners since Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort took over, including first-round swaps in the 2023 and 2024 drafts during Ossenfort’s first season.
According to multiple reports out of Indianapolis, Harrison will not go to the Colts, where his father, Marvin Harrison Sr., built a Hall of Fame career.
