Dolphins’ De’Von Achane Out for Season After Torn ACL

De'Von Achane

Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL in Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.

The injury is a major setback for Miami’s offense. Achane left early in the first quarter, and the Dolphins provided an update in the third. Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley had already expressed concern after the game.

Achane was injured on a short run during Miami’s opening offensive drive, falling after an awkward tackle. His final play was an 11-yard run for a first down, but he was slow to get up. He went to the sideline medical tent before walking off the field under his own power. He later returned to the Dolphins’ sideline without pads and without a visible limp, per CBS’s Melanie Collins.

Miami was already thin at running back. Jaylen Wright was ruled out before kickoff due to a stinger and a foot injury. He had been limited throughout the week and did not practice Friday. Ollie Gordon II was slated to lead the Dolphins’ run game for the rest of the Week 3 matchup.

Hafley said Friday he was “confident” Gordon could take on a larger role with Wright unavailable. That responsibility now grows even more with Achane out for the season.

Achane entered Sunday with a team-high 31 carries and was tied for the Dolphins’ lead with seven catches. Gordon, 22, played just 15 offensive snaps and 13 special teams snaps over the first two games, recording three carries for seven yards. With Achane—who had been on the field for more than 80% of Miami’s offensive snaps—missing the rest of the year, Gordon could see increased fantasy value.

The Dolphins are also without top wide receiver Caleb Douglas because of an ankle injury. Malik Washington and Chris Bell could see more usage if Miami leans on its passing game now that its top two running backs are sidelined.
